AMD Quad-Core Opteron Will Power The Latest HP Blade Server

AMD today announced that Quad-Core AMD Opteron(TM) processors exclusively power the HP ProLiant BL495c virtualization blade. HP ProLiant BL495c is the World’s First Server Blade Designed Specifically to Host Virtual Machines. The server basically features Up to two AMD Opteron 2300 Series processors with AMD Virtualization™ technology to improve performance in a virtual environment, 16 DIMM slots - supporting up to 128GB of ECC 667MHz DDR2 registered memory, Integrated dual-channel 10 GbE server adapter, and Dual-link AMD’s HyperTransport™ interconnection between processors. The new server will significantly reduce data center costs by allowing more virtual servers to be packed into each blade - which also undoubtedly extends the life cycle of the data center by saving floor space, power and cooling. 35 systems based on Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors are now shipping from global OEMs, and will be available for purchase on Sept. 15, 2008.
